Another Columbine It happened again,
another Columbine, this time in
Europe, another student with a gun, went on a bloody rampage, shooting
and killing several students. The story is the same, just the names and
the dates have changed. What is up with this? How does one get filled
with so much hatred that they want to kill? Just as before, this
student went out to get revenge on the students who had picked on, made
fun of and bullied him. The constant belittling by others took it's
toll and finally one last insult broke the camels back. Too many jerks
and mean girls, who put themselves up by putting other people
down, and their accomplices who join in with their laughter and taunts
finally put him over the edge.
Detailed analysis of Columbine shows that the killers in Colorado had a 'hit list' of fellow students that had tormented them. The killers knew exactly where to find these targets and hunted them down. The killers did show an amazing amount of mercy toward people not on the list. One survivor's account tells the about hiding under a desk during the shootings. The gunmen approached the desk and ask who was hiding under it. The student said his name, a name not on the list. The killers knew who it was and remembered that this person was someone who had always been cool to them. They told him to get up and leave. He did, and they spared his life, going on to shoot those around him, before taking their own lives. The press instantly dubbed the killers as evil villains, but in fact, they were the victims, and the shooting spree was poetic justice. Recently on the campus of an east coast college a similar shooting spree occurred. One girl who knew the killer spoke to the press about him. She said that the killer had tried to befriend her and she was going to go out with him but her friends told her to stay away from him because they thought he was weird, so she did. While her rejection was not the soul cause of the incident, she could have been the one to prevent it. Jesus told us to love one another. The bullies and the mean girls didn't listen. They went around filling people with hate. Is it any wonder, when you make someone feel bad, they want you to feel the same? So how does this apply to you? Do you put people down and discourage them, or do you try to lift them up and fill them with love? The bible says that when you hate, you are controlled by the devil. God commands you love one another and treat people like you would like to be treated. It is a sin to treat people poorly, and when they get their revenge, you get what your just rewards. So the moral of this story is to always treat people with love and respect even when other people around you don't. Don't judge them, but love them anyway, regardless of their faults, just like God loves you. |
